Connecticut League of Conservation Voters Education Fund
This statewide organization expanded two key educational programs; The Environmental Briefing Book was up-dated to include the environmental impact of global warming and energy and the Environment 101 program was expanded from four to six information sessions in 2008.

Vermont Independent Media
The Vermont Independent Media Mentoring Project aims to transform readers of the local media in Windham County, VT from consumers of a product into active participants and stakeholders. The Foundation supports free workshops in writing, editing and journalism skills. Participants are able to publish their work in a local community paper: “The Commons”

New England Grassroots Environmental Fund
The mission of NEGEF is to energize and nurture long-term civic engagement in local initiatives that create and maintain healthy, just, safe and environmentally sustainable communities. This grant supports the Small Grants Pool that provides small grants ranging from $500-$2,500 to small grassroots kitchen table groups throughout the New England states.

Dogwood Alliance
The Dogwood Alliance is now embarking on a Packaging Campaign. They are launching a public campaign which will engage citizens and grassroots activists in challenging targeted companies to adopt company wide environmental paper policies. Those that emphasize 100% post-consumer recycled paperboard.

Vermont Rural Educational Collaborative
Vermont Community Energy Project
The Vermont Community Energy Project is a collaborative between the Cabot School and the Vermont Rural Partnership. The goal of this project was to engage, educate and motivate high school students to perform energy saving work in the Cabot and Twinfield community. A summer program was offered to students to cultivate energy smart youth.

Friends of Burlington Gardens
The foundation continues to support increased participation of underserved Burlington area residents in community, school, neighborhood, youth, senior and garden group projects.

Toxic Free North Carolina, formerly Pest-Ed
The school-based Toxic-Free Kids program organizes parents, teachers and students to reduce children’s toxic exposures by replacing toxic pesticides with low-cost, common-sense and non-toxic pest control programs in North Carolina schools. This year will the project has taken a new direction to reach farmworker communities.

Composting Association of Vermont
Legal Compost
CAV has brought community stakeholders together to address regulatory barriers to diverting more organic materials from landfills and into composting. The purpose of this effort was to develop recommendations that can stimulate a viable and environmentally sound composting sector.

Virginia Forest Watch
Virginia Forest Watch’s goals are to strengthen protection of Virginia’s inventoried roadless areas, old-growth forests, important watersheds, and other key areas/resources; to build a stronger public-lands-conservation community to protect public forest assets; and to increase public awareness and citizen action on national forest issues in Virginia.

Global Justice Ecology Project
Support for the ‘Stop GE Trees Campaign’. The goal of the campaign is to prohibit the ecologically and socially devastating release of genetically engineered trees into the environment. The GJEP brings together organizations ranging from large national groups like the Sierra Club to regional networks like The Dogwood Alliance, to local grassroots groups in regions at risk from plans for future GE tree plantations. The work includes coalition-building, local grassroots organizing, public outreach and education, media campaigns, protests, strategy meetings and economic pressure through market campaigns.

Connecticut Audubon Society
The 2008 lecture series aims to increase people’s awareness of issues related to climate change. This Go Green project encourages people to change their daily tasks and habits to have a positive impact on global warming through the reduction of greenhouse gasses.

Minuteman Media
Minuteman Media was created to inform people who have little access to progressive opinion about alternative perspectives and targets small circulation newspapers to receive weekly dispatch of progressive viewpoints for publications in their editorial pages.

Food Works at Two Rivers Center
Food Works Farm-to-Table, Foodbank Farm and Good Food Good Medicine programs are working toward a regional food security network, one that connects low-income Vermonters to the producers of their food and helps to establish a more sustainable, locally based and just form of food production and consumption.

Institute for Social Ecology Biotechnology Project
The Biotechnology Project offers research and activism on the politics and science of global warming. The projects intervenes strategically in public debates surrounding the many false solutions to climate chaos, including biofuels, carbon trading and offsets, and the proposed resurgence of nuclear power.

Toxics Action Center
Zero Waste Campaign seeks to address the solid waste problem in Vermont. In order to address the ever-increasing municipal solid waste problem and the decreasing amount of land fill space, the Toxics Action Center and the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District have developed the Zero Waste Campaign.

The Peace and Justice Center seeks to educate and mobilize Vermonters around the effects of US militarism here at home and abroad; economic and racial injustice; and issues of peace and human rights.

The Intervale Center
Healthy City Program

This program conducts effective outreach and education for at-risk teenagers, links school cafeterias with local farms, provides thousands of pounds of fresh produce to families in need, and contributes to a more secure local food system.

The Onion River Exchange matches people’s free time, talent and good will with needs—both economic and social—in the Montpelier community using the internationally recognized model of ‘ time banking’ to match needs with services.

Gedakina
History, Language and Environmental Justice
This is a regional traditional ecological knowledge and cultural revitalization initiative conceived of in collaboration with First Nation educators and elders. This program seeks to foster an in-depth understanding of environment, native language and connection to place in a safe, supportive learning environment for young people.

Citizens Awareness Network
People’s Choices for a Green Future Campaign
This tri-state initiative seeks to mobilize public involvement in rejecting the relicensing of the Vermont Yankee nuclear reactor and replacing its power output with sustainable, decentralized energy solutions that can transform energy policy in New England. This multi-layered campaign includes grassroots organizing, voter education, coalition building, and barnstorming to create engaged organizers in each district in Vermont to mobilize public participation in the democratic process.
